Lifeltime Connections

Yesterday I had the honor of being invited to a milestone birthday party for two old friends.  All afternoon and evening I was surrounded by people I used to know so well when my life looked a little different.  No one was hardly drinking (trust that I notice these things) and yet we all fell in like no time had passed at all.  THAT is a measure of connection.  Time passes but the sober friendships remain the same.  I have missed having these women in my life and I’m looking forward to keeping the connection open and building in the coming days.

For one tiny reason why…  These women are tough! They (and many more who didn’t make the photo) push themselves to live big lives and encourage those around them to do the same.  They challenge me to think beyond my comfort and ease.  I’ve missed that very much in my last few years of flying solo.

Thank you all for inspiring me to get out to the track this morning and see how much ground I’ve lost.  A 10:18 mile time was better than I’d expected and left me feeling worse than I’d hoped.  I have a long way to go if I want to competently trail run again.  It’s good to be surrounded by friends who take weekly hikes and runs along with the tantalizing  possibility of a 15k trail race at the end of the year.

BTW… trail running in no way takes away from my love for backpacking or my dearest girlfriends who share their backcountry passion.  This is in addition to, not in place of, because there is always time and room for more life if we want it!
